Drawdown Georgia Business Compact’s David Eady Featured on Sustainability Podcast Focused on Finding Common-Sense Solutions to Society’s Biggest Problems

Director of industry engagement for the Ray C. Anderson Center for Sustainable Business on Biophilic Solutions Podcast discussing Georgia businesses growing their climate commitments

In a new episode of the Georgia-grown Biophilic Solutions podcast, Drawdown Georgia Business Compact’s (Compact) David Eady talked about how doing good for the environment can also be good for business. His lively discussion with Monica Olsen, podcast host and CMO of Serenbe, covered the impact of collective action on climate change. “We’re seeing more and more businesses stepping up to the challenge and making commitments to reduce their greenhouse gases, achieving goals of net zero by 2050, 2040, or even more aggressively,” said David Eady, director of industry engagement for the Ray C. Anderson Center for Sustainable Business. “Climate change is a very complex challenge that can’t be solved by any one organization.”

The discussion included the important role the Compact plays in facilitating collaborations – helping people make connections and find initiatives to work on together. “We’re building that community of practice where you’ve got all these sustainability directors and chief sustainability officers coming together and learning from each other,” said Eady. “So this collection, truly this community of practitioners, all have their own stories they can share, or they can ask questions, and we can go find resources to answer those questions.” Sharing best practices is a powerful way to help inspire action among the state’s business community, as they track toward their climate goals, and something the Compact prioritizes with its platforms and programs.

Eady was keen to point out that the Compact goes beyond the Atlanta business community to reach organizations throughout Georgia. “We want to make sure that we're looking across the state, not just the metro Atlanta area, to ensure [the Compact] is growing to be a group of diverse businesses – diverse in terms of sectors, sizes, geography, etc.,” said Eady. This commitment extends to qualifications for involvement. “We have very few barriers to entry. We just ask that the companies that join us join that commitment to moving Georgia's economy towards net zero and that they demonstrate that commitment by getting engaged with the Compact and trying to find opportunities to work with one another toward that common goal.”
